National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR) has been set up to undertake the creation, maintenance and development of a national data base through recent advances in electronic information technology with a national collaborative network so as to undertake aetiological, epidemiological, clinical and control research in these areas on Cancer, Diabetes and Cardio Vascular Diseases and strokes. Currently NCDIR is engaged in the preparation of the data base on cancer through the network of 27 population based, 7 hospital based cancer registries and 17 centres collaborating in the study on Patterns of Care and Survival Studies, set up under the Council’s extramurally funded National Cancer Registry Programme. 1.3 Similar data base on the other diseases are planned in the future. Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC) - The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) is the new state-of-the-art R&D satellite of the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), which also includes under its umbrella the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), the largest cancer hospital in Asia. ACTREC has the mandate to function as a national centre for treatment, research and education in cancer. TMC is an autonomous grant-in-aid institution of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860) and the Bombay Public Trust Act (1950). Its Governing Council is headed by the Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, Government of India. West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (WBSETCL) wholly owned by Govt. of West Bengal, is a professionally managed, a multi-sited Power Transmission Company in Eastern India. The Company has developed strong in-house expertise in various facets of power transmission business. As on the end of financial year 2010-11, the Company operates and maintains a transmission network of 11461.000 CKM of Extra High Voltage Transmission lines along with 98 sub-stations (400 KV- 66 KV) having total transformation capacity of 18233.1 MVA, spread over the entire stretch of the State of West Bengal. With focus of improving performance, the transmission system was consistently maintained at an availability of over 99.92%, at par with international standards. [more details]

Education and Research Network (ERNET) was initiated in 1986 by the Department of Electronics (DoE), with funding support from the Government of India and United Nations Development Program (UNDP), involving eight premier institutions as participating agencies–NCST (National Centre for Software Technology) Bombay, IISc (Indian Institute of Science) Bangalore, five IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) at Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Madras, and the DoE, New Delhi. ERNET began as a multi protocol network with both the TCP/IP and the OSI-IP protocol stacks running over the leased-line portion of the backbone. Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), a key regulator of power sector in India, is a statutory body functioning with quasi-judicial status under sec – 76 of the Electricity Act 2003. CERC was initially constituted on 24 July 1998 under the Ministry of Power’s Electricity Regulatory Commissions Act, 1998 for rationalization of electricity tariffs, transparent policies regarding subsidies, promotion of efficient and environmentally benign policies, and for matters connected Electricity Tariff regulation. CERC was instituted primarily to regulate the tariff of Power Generating companies owned or controlled by the government of India, and any other generating company which has a composite scheme for power generation and interstate transmission of energy, including tariffs of generating companies.
