Bharathiar University is a postgraduate university in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, South India. Named after Tamil poet Subramania Bharathiar, the university was established in February 1982 and was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1985. The university is situated in the foothills of Marudamalai road, Coimbatore and has jurisdiction over the districts of Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris. The National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology (NRCPB) was established in 1985 with a vision to impart the biotechnology advantage to the much-needed thrust to Indian Agriculture. The Centre had adopted relatively softer option of tissue culture based research in its infancy in view of the build-uptime required for a strong self-sustaining infrastructure. In order to develop strong inter-and intra-institutional linkages for promoting and strengthening plant biotechnology research in the ICAR system, the Centre has been identified as the lead centre. National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) is an Indian education and research facility located at Osmania University in Hyderabad. The institute operates under the Indian Council of Medical Research  for India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
